An Invitation To Remember The Old Ways

The postpartum window is a tender, transformative, and often underserved threshold.

It’s a time when a mother’s body is reweaving itself, her heart is wide open, and her spirit is integrating the immensity of birth.

This apprenticeship was created to help you learn how to truly tend that space.

The Botanical Postpartum Apprenticeship is a three-month journey into herbal postpartum care — rooted in Ayurveda, Western herbalism, ancestral wisdom, and your own lived relationship with plants.

You’ll work with herbs as allies, listening to the stories and energetics of each plant; and you’ll learn how to bring that medicine into the hands, hearts, and homes of postpartum mothers in a way that is grounded, ethical, and deeply felt.

What You’ll Receive

This apprenticeship is a living, hands-on container during which you’ll learn how to practice postpartum herbal care with clarity and confidence.

By the end of the program, you’ll be able to offer professional herbal support for postpartum mothers, addressing physical recovery, emotional integration, and common post-birth challenges for both mother and baby.

You’ll leave with:

  • A full postpartum apothecary of 10 herbal allies you know how to work deeply with

  • Confidence in making + utilizing teas, oils, essences, tinctures, foods, rituals, and more

  • A deeper, embodied understanding of plant energetics

  • Real postpartum care skills you can bring into doula work, clinical practice, or your personal offerings

This program is based on Ayurveda, Western and elemental herbalism, and your own lineage. Each apprentice will also work with one ancestral plant and one local ally — bringing your personal heritage and local land into the heart of your practice.

✴︎ 21 Live Classes over Three Months

Classes are held in Zoom and move through alternating cycles of focused learning followed by hands on practice and medicine making.

Some Of The Botanical Allies We’ll Explore

Each cohort receives a unique combination of plant teachings based on the energy of the apprentices that join and the plants that feel called to be worked with.

We will be working with the following herbs in addition to others chosen uniquely for the Winter 2025 Cohort—

With Sarva: Devadaru (Himalayan Cedar), Rose, Magnolia, Tulsi, Frankincense, Sea Moss & Seaweeds, and more.

With Joan: Lotus, Copal, Marigold, Lemongrass, Kaffir Lime, and more.

Each apprentice will also choose & uniquely journey with one herb local to their land and one ancestral plant ally supportive of postpartum healing.

About The Facilitator

Sarva Blackwell is an herbalist, bodyworker, Ayurvedic postpartum doula, and natural therapeutic specialist who has spent much of her life listening to plants and tending to babies & mothers.

Her work lives where earth medicine, nervous system care, and soul restoration meet — supporting those who feel called to remember the old, embodied ways of tending life.

She has spent over twenty years caring for newborns and families, thirteen years practicing with herbs, and the last decade serving as an Ayurvedic postpartum doula. Since 2019, she has led Inner Sun & Moon’s Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula Training, guiding hundreds of students in the art of slow, reverent postpartum care.

Sarva teaches from lived experience — from the plants she has apprenticed herself to, the mothers she has served, and the quiet wisdom gathered from years of walking with birth, postpartum, and the healing work in between.
