In Ayurveda, ghee is highly recommended to support post-birth recovery. It helps mama replenish deeply, make beautiful rich breastmilk for her baby, balance her hormones, stabilize her mood & emotions, avoid or remedy constipation, and so much more.
I usually make 1 or 2 quarts of plain ghee for each mama who I care for during her postpartum sacred window, and that’s usually the perfect amount.
The first medicine recommended in Ayurveda for mama to take within a few minutes of giving birth is panchakola ghee — a five herb infused ghee. It’s something I want every mother in my care to have after birth to jumpstart her healing & set her up for a healthy postpartum.
