I’ve never known a treatment to align me more—body, mind, and spirit.
Shirodhara moves me instantly into deep nervous system restoration… and heals what I didn’t even know was asking to be healed.

Here’s why—

Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy in which a steady, gentle stream of warm oil (or sometimes other therapeutic liquids like herbal decoctions or milk) is poured over the forehead—specifically the area known as the Ajna chakra or third eye. The word comes from Sanskrit: "shiro" means head and "dhara" means flow.

✧ What Happens During Shirodhara

  • The client lies on a table while warm, herbalized oil flows in a continuous stream across the forehead.

  • The oil is usually poured from a copper or brass vessel suspended above the head.

  • Treatments last from 15-30 minutes, often preceded or followed by a warm oil massage (abhyanga) for deeper grounding.

✧ Why It's So Special

1. Deeply Nervous-System Soothing
In Ayurveda, Shirodhara is said to directly calm the sympathetic nervous system, pulling the body out of fight-or-flight and into deep rest. It's been compared to the effects of meditation, REM sleep, or even sacred plant medicine journeys, without ingesting anything.

2. Reconnects Mind, Body, and Soul
The constant stream of oil over the third eye helps still the mind, melt away looping thoughts, and drop someone into presence and emotional clarity.

3. Unique Touch Point of Spirit and Science
It’s one of the Ayurvedic treatments that addresses mental wellbeing, spiritual attunement, and physiological regulation all at once.

4. Known for Releasing Long-Held Grief, Fear, and Trauma
Clients often cry, feel spontaneous joy, or enter altered states of consciousness during or after a session. It’s considered by many to be a gateway to soothing the emotional heart.

5. Rejuvenates from Burnout and Overwhelm
Especially for those depleted from caregiving, trauma, or constant doing, Shirodhara is said in Ayurveda to restore ojas (vitality) and balance all 3 doshas.

✧ In Short:

Shirodhara is not just a spa treatment—it’s a sacred ritual of renewal.
It’s a gentle, deeply powerful way to:
✨ support a clear mind
✨ soothe the heart
✨ support nervous system function
✨ connect to inner wisdom
